Pofadderskloof a paradise on earth

Welcome to the farm. Pofadderskloof is part of the Bredasdorp Mountains that form the northernedge of the
AgulhasPlain - an area that is well known for its botanical importance (Cowling et al 1992, Mustart et al 1997), 34 29'29.54S 19 48'16.69E.
The entire property is covered with Mountain Fynbos (from 300 – 550 meter), about 60% of which is on deep, moist, acid sands. The remainder is Mountain Fynbos on shallow, rocky (Table Mountain Sandstone) soils, as well as riverine and gorge vegetation (in Huisrivierkloof and northern and southern Boskloof, all three of which have their sources in the wetlands on the property). Rainfall is high, and is in the order of 1000mm per annum. Alien plants (particularly Pinus pinaster, and Hakea gibbosa to a lesser extent) which have invaded large portions of the area, have been cleared over the last 3 years. Especially the Hakea has been removed entirely.
In 2003 we decided to convert the land back into its natural habitat which includes the indigenous flowers, Fynbos and animals. The major objective is to study the interdependency of a balanced habitat and availability of water in that balanced situation. It is also an objective to determine a sustainable population of animals for the area. Pofadderskloof is part of a larger initiative that forms the Wetland Nature Park.
